Mission Statement

In 2006, Sobers Holdings Incorporated was founded by Daniel Sobers, Sir Garfield’s son, to manage the GarrySobers Barbados brand. The company’s mission is to create a gateway for all things “Garry Sobers” and to make it possible for his admirers to not only learn more, but have greater access to the man himself. Here also, the youth can learn about Sir Garfield and be inspired and assisted to reach their cricketing potential.

Marcus Clarke moved to the top of the leader board on Day 2 of the Garry Sobers Golf championships being played this weekend on Barbados’ three championship courses. Playing at Sandy Lane’s Country Club, Clarke’s 71 puts him on 145 overall, two strokes better than James Johnson who shot 73. Joint first day leader Adrian Norford faltered with a 78 to 149, four strokes behind the leader.

Friday’s Professional section leader Alex Sandeman hit 69 to move five shots clear of Ulric Francis whose faltering 74 dropped him to 146. Chris Richard’s 72 drops him to 148, seven strokes behind the leader.

In the ladies championship flight, defending champion Lynn deCambra-McLeod maintained her lead with 75 on Saturday, but she is still hotly pursued by Becky Dowell whose 75 keeps her one stroke off the lead. Teenaged Serena Smith produced the best score of 73 to finish the day on 156, three behind deCambra-McLeod.

Saturday’s fireworks were at Durants where veteran Ricky Skeete hit 34 and 33 to move five strokes ahead of yesterday’s leader Michael Commissiong whose 77 leaves him at 149. Michael Haynes and Trevor Reid finished the day on 154.

Sunday’s final day sees the championship flights and the Super seniors move to the Barbados Golf club at Durants while the first and third flights play at Sandy Lane’s Country Club and Second and Seniors finish the tournament at Royal Westmoreland.
